How long does the process take?

The installation of a polyaspartic garage floor is typically completed within 1-2 days. The process involves the following steps:

Thoroughly cleaning, grinding, and preparing the concrete slab.

Caulking hairline cracks in the joints, if present, to achieve a smooth and uniform surface.

Optionally applying a colored polyaspartic coat to the stem walls, based on customer preference.

Patching all cracks and voids in the concrete to ensure a flawless base.

Applying a colored primer coat of polyaspartic for enhanced adhesion.

Laying down a colored base coat of polyaspartic.

Broadcasting decorative chips into the wet base coat, then allowing it to dry and cure.

Applying a clear top coat over the base coat and chips for a durable, glossy finish.

Conducting a thorough cleanup of the entire work area.

This efficient, well-coordinated process results in a high-quality, long-lasting garage floor, with most installations completed within 1-2 days.

How long before I can walk on it?

After the installation of your new floor, we recommend observing the following guidelines:

24 hours – Allow the floor to cure before walking on it.

48 hours – After this period, you may drive on the floor and begin placing items. Be sure to lift and place objects rather than dragging or sliding them.

Once the 48-hour curing period is complete, your floor will be ready for full use. You can roll jacks, move toolboxes, and carry out all your usual activities in the garage without any concerns!

What should be done with the water softener and/or water heater?

In some cases, customers have water softeners and/or water heaters installed directly on the garage floor. If this applies to your garage, there’s no need to worry. Typically, our team will use a brush to apply the polyaspartic up to the edge of the unit. However, if you prefer to have the polyaspartic coated underneath the unit, it will need to be removed prior to our team’s arrival. It’s worth noting that the vast majority—99%—of our customers opt to have the coating applied around the unit rather than underneath it.

What do you do to prep the floor?

To prepare the floor for a new polyaspartic coating, we utilize a 20” walk-behind diamond grinder to thoroughly remove the entire top layer of the concrete. This process scrapes, scratches, and grinds away any existing oil, contaminants, or imperfections, leaving the surface looking like a brand-new slab.

Diamond grinding serves a dual purpose: not only does it eliminate unwanted substances, but it also creates deep grooves in the concrete. These grooves are essential, as they provide an ideal texture for the polyaspartic to adhere to, ensuring a strong, long-lasting bond. A smooth surface would make it difficult for the polyaspartic to grip, whereas a rough, grooved surface allows the polyaspartic to latch on securely.

Some companies may offer pressure washing or acid washing as a method of surface preparation, but these techniques are inadequate for creating the necessary texture. They fail to roughen the concrete sufficiently, resulting in a subpar foundation for the polyaspartic coating.

All of the materials we use for our floor installations are industrial grade, designed for the most demanding environments, including auto mechanic shops, airplane hangars, and chemical laboratories.

Rather than relying on lower-solids water-based coatings, we use SLABHARD FASTFLO 80X—a professional-grade, high-solids polyaspartic formulated at approximately 80% solids by volume. That means substantially more protective material remains on your floor after curing. Its fast-curing, UV-stable formula creates a durable, high-gloss finish with excellent resistance to abrasion, stains, chemicals, and hot-tire pickup.

How thick is the floor coating?

Our three-coat flooring system is applied at approximately 17.5 mils wet-film thickness, creating a substantial, durable coating designed to withstand everyday garage use.

What do I need to do to prepare the garage for installation day?

To ensure your garage is ready for installation day, please make sure to remove all items resting on the floor. It’s perfectly fine to leave items hanging on the walls.

Do not spray the floor with water within 48 hours of our arrival. Water and polyaspartic do not mix, and introducing moisture could create complications and potential delays in the installation process.

What type of warranty do you offer?

Each of our garage flooring installations includes a lifetime warranty against chipping and peeling. Should you encounter any issues with chipping or peeling, we will promptly arrange for repairs at no additional cost to you.

Are the floors slippery?

Polyaspartic flooring can become slippery under certain conditions, so it is advisable to wear shoes or walk barefoot to avoid slipping, as socks may not provide sufficient traction. When the floor is wet, wearing shoes is strongly recommended.

While the acrylic paint chips offer some degree of grip, for enhanced traction, we can incorporate Aluminum Oxide into the topcoat upon request. This non-slip additive significantly improves floor safety.

What should I use to clean the floor?

We recommend using a pH-neutral floor cleaner to maintain your polyaspartic floor. These cleaners are readily available at major retailers such as Home Depot, Lowe's, and ACE Hardware. The specific brand we endorse is "ZEP Neutral pH Floor Cleaner."

Will you guys move my stuff out of the garage for me?

Epoxy Werx does not offer moving services, so please ensure that the garage is fully cleared prior to our arrival. Should you require assistance with moving large items, such as a refrigerator, on the day of installation, one of our crew members may be available to help.

Do you fill in the expansion joints?

Expansion joints are specifically engineered to accommodate the movement between concrete slabs and alleviate stress as the underlying soil shifts over time. To maintain their intended function, we recommend leaving these joints unfilled. However, if you prefer to have them filled, we can accommodate this request for an additional charge. Please note that while stress cracks are rare, they may occur in the joint area if the slabs shift naturally, and such issues will not be covered under warranty.

Is there any dust involved in the process?

Dust is an inherent byproduct of grinding the concrete slab, but Epoxy Werx is equipped with state-of-the-art dust extraction systems. Our high-performance, industrial-grade vacuums efficiently capture 99.9% of the concrete dust generated during the process. These vacuums are capable of filtering particles as small as 0.3 microns, ensuring that even the finest dust is effectively removed.
